Adjusting Fuel Surcharges

Fixed Rate Fuel Surcharges

Step 1: Open your Docket account and select Account > Settings > Dumpster Management

Step 4: Adjust additional settings per your preference for taxes, the name listed on the invoice, and whether you will add a fuel surcharge to exchanges and dump and returns

Distance Based Fuel Surcharges

Step 1: Open your Docket account and select Account Settings Dumpster Management

Step 2: Click Billing to expand the section. Toggle on/off the first two options of showing fuel surcharges on rentals and default applying the surcharge to the invoices.

Step 3: Select Distance to add fuel surcharge in on a distance based rate. You are now going to create the calculation parameters regarding your distance based charges.

  • Decide how far you are wanting to travel before the fuel surcharge kicks in. Some businesses want it to immediately start tracking, so they would enter “0”. Others are willing to travel 5-10 miles before they want to create a charge so they would enter “5”.
  • How much do you want to charge your customers PER MILE in fuel. In the example below, we are charging $2 per mile. This number can be higher or lower depending on how much you are spending on fuel.
  • Lastly, you will enter your starting address; choose an address of your yard, home office, or other location that you most often leave from or would otherwise want to have your distance calculation begin.

Percentage Based Fuel Surcharge

Step 1: Open your Docket account and select Account Settings Company Billing Settings

Step 2: Under General, click Pricing Tools to expand the Fuel Surcharge setting

Step 3: Toggle ON to Default Apply Fuel Surcharge. Type in the numerical value that you want to calculate of the total invoice amount for fuel surcharge. Be sure to adjust the setting for taxing the fuel surcharge and click Save Settings.
