Creating Pricing Models in Docket Using a Pricing Matrix

A pricing matrix is ideal for businesses with complex pricing models that consider multiple factors, such as location, material type, and client type. This article explains how to set up, manage, and import a pricing matrix into Docket.

What Is a Pricing Matrix?

A pricing matrix allows you to establish intricate pricing models by combining factors like:

  • Location: State, city, zip code, or distance.
  • Client Type: Homeowners, contractors, etc.
  • Material Type: Allowed materials and associated costs.
  • Additional Fees: Overages, fuel surcharges, or failed task fees.

Each row in the matrix represents a specific price point tied to these factors.

Setting Up a Pricing Matrix

  1. Download the Template:
    • Go to Account > Settings > Dumpster Management.
    • Scroll to Dumpster Pricing Matrix and click the download link.
  2. Understand the Columns:
    • Do not edit column headers; Docket uses them to import data correctly.
    • Only columns with red headers are required; leave others blank if not needed, but do not delete them.
  3. Fill in the Spreadsheet:
    • Location: Use one of State/Province, County, City, Zip Code, or Distance (no overlaps in distance ranges).
    • Materials, Size, Category: Match these exactly to what’s set in your account for assets and materials.
    • Rental Length: Enter only numbers (e.g., “7” for 7 days).
    • Client Cost: The base rental price is required.
    • Additional Fees: Add costs for failed tasks, overages, or surcharges in the relevant columns.
    • Name and Description: Specify how the pricing model will appear on invoices and tasks.
  4. Include Optional Business Costs:
    • Use Labor Cost, Material Cost, and Equipment Cost columns to calculate profit margins.
  5. Save the Spreadsheet:
    • Ensure you keep a copy for your records outside of Docket.

Importing the Pricing Matrix

  1. Go to Account > Settings > Dumpster Management.
  2. Scroll to Dumpster Pricing Matrix and select your location category (e.g., State, Zip, or Distance).
  3. Click Upload Matrix File, choose your completed file, and upload it.
  4. Verify the upload by hovering over the View button to review your pricing models.

Tips for Success

  • Ensure the names in your matrix match exactly with the data in Docket (e.g., material names, asset categories).
  • Save a copy of your pricing matrix file for future reference or adjustments.
  • Combine pricing matrices for regular pricing and templates for one-time fees or special charges.
