Docket’s local phone number feature lets you send and receive text messages, track conversations, and set up call forwarding for your customers and employees. This article explains how to set up your local phone number and register for SMS campaigns.
What Is a Local Phone Number?
A local phone number allows you to:
- Send and receive text messages with customers and employees.
- Forward customer calls to a designated employee or business number.
- Track text conversations in Docket’s Messages section and customer profiles.
Step 1: Setting Up Your Local Phone Number
- Access the Local Phone Number Feature:
- Go to Account > Plan > Messages.
- Click Add Phone Number.
- Select a Phone Number:
- Enter your preferred area code and select from the available numbers.
- Note: You cannot request specific numbers or use an existing business number.
- Assign the Number:
- Assign the number to an employee in Docket.
- Ensure the employee’s profile has a working phone number for call forwarding.
- Do not use the local phone number as the forwarding number to avoid call loops.
Step 2: Registering for SMS Campaigns (10DLC)
Businesses must register for SMS campaigns to send text messages to US-based customers:
- Understand the Requirements:
- Have an EIN, a business website with your legal name, and a professional email address.
- The website must link to a Privacy Policy and Terms & Conditions.
- Access the Registration Form:
- After selecting a phone number, the registration form will appear.
- Reopen the form anytime via the Finish 10DLC Form button in your account.
- Complete the Form:
- Provide the legal business name, EIN, business address, and website URL.
- Choose your Call To Action & Opt-In Options:
- Verbal: Customers verbally agree to receive texts.
- Digital: Customers opt-in via a form with a disclaimer and links to policies.
- Manual: Customers text your number first to opt-in.
- Submit the Form:
- Docket’s team will review and forward your application to the third-party provider.
- Registration is required only for businesses texting US-based customers.
Tips for Best Practices
- Use the local phone number for texting and continue using your existing number as your main line.
- Inform customers to save both numbers for communication.
- Choose multiple opt-in methods (e.g., verbal and digital) to streamline customer consent.
