Before You Begin
Ensure that:
- Your DocketPay account has been approved and activated
- You have the latest version of the Docket mobile app installed
- Your Clover Go device is charged (use the included charging cable)
- Bluetooth is enabled on your mobile device
Initial Device Pairing
- Ensure your card reader is fully charged before first use. You will see a solid pink light on the device when it is plugged in and fully charged.
- Open the Docket mobile app
- Navigate to Settings via the small gear icon in the upper right of the screen, and then click on View Settings
- Select Connect a Card Reader
- Press and hold the power button on your Clover Go until it turns on, indicated by a small light on the front of the device.
- Click the Connect button in the app next to the device you want to pair.
- If the device has the most recent updates, it will enter pairing mode automatically when first powered on, which is indicated by a blue blinking light.
Note: The first time you pair your card reader, it may go through a required update cycle. This will take about 2 minutes to complete, and is indicated by the device flashing a blue and pink light pattern. Once the update is complete, the device will disconnect. You can then connect it to your phone or tablet and it will be ready for use. Once the card reader has been updated, it can be used with other devices immediately and does not require you to update each time you pair it to a new phone or tablet.
- Look for the PIN code printed on the back of your device (you may need this for pairing). It is sometimes also listed in the device name. See photos below for examples.
- If the device's firmware is updated, pressing the Connect button should start the connection experience, which will show a sequence of status updates with a darkened screen like the one seen below. Wait for the pairing process to complete.
- You'll see a confirmation message when pairing is successful. This page will automatically return you to the Settings area after 3 seconds.
Verifying Your Connection
After successful pairing:
- You will be shown a connection success screen. This page will automatically redirect you to the Settings page after 3 seconds
- The card reader will show as "Connected" in your device settings
- You'll now see the card reader option available in payment workflows whenever Credit Card is selected as the payment method.
Important Setup Notes
First-Time Setup Required
- You must complete the initial pairing through the Settings menu before the card reader will appear in payment workflows.
- The card reader option will not be available during payments until this initial setup is complete.
App Reinstallation
If you uninstall and reinstall the Docket app:
- You'll need to re-pair your card reader through the Settings menu
- Your previous pairing will not be automatically restored
- Follow the same pairing steps outlined above to restore the option to use your card reader during payment workflows.
Troubleshooting Initial Setup
Device Not Found
If your Clover Go doesn't appear in the available devices list:
- Ensure the device is powered on and in pairing mode
- Check that Bluetooth is enabled on your mobile device
- Try turning the card reader off and on again. The reader can be turned off by holding down the power button for 10 seconds. Holding it down again for another 3 seconds will turn it back on.
- Move your phone or tablet closer to the card reader (within 15 feet recommended)
- Press the Retry Search button on the device pairing screen in the settings area.
- If none of these steps resolve the issue, you can preform a restart of the Docket app (force close it and then open it again after a few seconds) and try again.
PIN Issues
If you're having trouble with the PIN:
- Double-check the PIN on the back of your device
- Ensure you're entering it exactly as shown - the PIN will always be 6 numbers, no letters or special characters.
- Some devices may not require a PIN and will directly connect to the phone or tablet without this information.
Connection Fails
If pairing continuously fails:
- Restart both your mobile device and the card reader
- Try the pairing process again
- Contact support if issues persist
Note: The card reader device can only be actively connected to one device at a time. For security purposes, one device cannot take over the card reader connection from another device until it has been disconnected from the first device. To disconnect the card reader, go to the Settings area and click on the Actions menu for the card reader, then select Disconnect. After this, it should be available to connect to any other device normally.
Battery Management
- Keep your Clover Go charged for optimal performance.
- The device will display a low battery warning (blinking red light) when charging is needed. The app will also display a banner during payment workflows alerting you of a low battery.
- Use only the included charging cable
- A full charge typically provides enough power for several days of active use
Note: The card reader device has enough battery for roughly 125 transactions on a single charge, but it is recommend that you charge it periodically to ensure it is ready for use when you need it. The device can remain powered on in standby mode for up to a full week. It will automatically enter standby mode when not used for 15 minutes.
