Dumpsters are the core of your roll-off business. Without them, Docket’s scheduling, dispatching, and other key features won’t function. Adding your assets ensures seamless operations, including tracking, scheduling, and dispatching effectively.
There are two ways to add your dumpster assets to your Docket account: individually or all at once in bulk. Use the navigation menu to the right of this article to jump to a particular section or read through both options to decide which is best for you to use.
Before You Start
Here are a few things to know before you continue:
- A service address isn't required when adding dumpster assets, but if an asset is currently onsite with a client we strongly encourage you to add the service address so your inventory stays accurate.
- If you plan to bulk import your dumpster assets, don't change the header labels in the first row of the template otherwise the import won't work.
Add an Asset Manually
As you grow your dumpster inventory, you'll need to add those individual units to your Docket account so they can be rented to clients and tracked properly.
To add a single dumpster asset, watch the above video or follow the below instructions:
- Click the "+ New" button in the top left corner.
- Click on "Asset" in the Add section.
- Click on "Dumpster" from the Add Asset form to the right.
- Select the Size of the dumpster asset you're adding from the Size drop-down.
TIP: If you're not seeing the size you're looking for in the Size drop-down, that's probably because your Dumpster Management > Dumpster Settings by Size section doesn't have the size you're looking for. Check that area of your settings to confirm that the size you're looking for has been added there. - Docket will auto-fill the Category and PIN fields based on the Size you've selected, but you can change these if needed.
- Click "Add Asset" at the bottom to save your dumpster asset.
Category: If you're using a Pricing Matrix, this field should should match the Category column in your Matrix.
PIN: This is what your drivers will enter into Docket's mobile app when dropping off and picking up this specific dumpster. You can use Docket's auto-generated PIN or change it to match an existing PIN number, ID number, or QR code for this dumpster.
A PIN can be a combination of letters and numbers, and can include periods, dashes, or spaces. The PIN is case sensitive, so drivers will have to enter in exactly what’s in this field, including lower case and/or capital letters.
If you don't want to track your individual dumpsters and where they go/are at any given time, you can leave the PIN field blank.
Add a Service Address to a Dumpster Asset
After you've added your dumpster, they'll appear in the Assets section of your Docket account in an Untracked list.
If any of your dumpsters are currently onsite for a rental, we suggest clicking on that dumpster from your Assets list and adding the service address so Docket can begin tracking your availability accurately.
To do that, watch the above video or follow the below instructions:
- Click on "Assets" to the left.
- Click on "Assets" in the top right.
- Under the Untracked section, click on the dumpster you need to add an address to.
- Click into "Current" at the top of the dumpster asset's profile.
- Click to expand the Address section and fill in the fields with the service address.
- Click "Update Current" to save your changes.
Docket will move the dumpster out of the Untracked section and into its own date-specific list.
Bulk Import Multiple Dumpster Assets
Whether you're just starting to add your dumpsters to your Docket account in onboarding or you've purchased multiple dumpsters as part of growing your business, you'll need to add them to your account so you can rent them to clients and track them successfully.
To bulk import a lot of dumpster assets all at once, watch the video above or follow the below instructions:
- Click the "+ New" button in the top left corner.
- Click on "Imports" in the More Actions section.
- Click on "Assets" from the list that appears.
- Click on the "Download Template" option that appears.
- Fill out the spreadsheet template that you've downloaded with all of your dumpster information, one dumpster per row.
Please Note: It's very important to not change the headers in the first row of the spreadsheet template otherwise Docket won't import your dumpsters properly.
Type: This is required. Enter Dumpster in this column for every dumpster so Docket imports it properly.
Size: This is required. Only a number should be entered here that matches the size of the dumpster.
Category: This is required. This can technically be anything, but if you're using a Pricing Matrix you'll want to make sure the Category name entered here matches the Category in your Matrix.
PIN: This is required. You can use numbers, letters, dashes, periods, and spaces, but your drivers will need to enter the exact case-sensitive PIN when picking up or dropping off this dumpster.
Address Line 1, Address Line 2, City, State, and Zip: These are not required because your dumpsters may not be onsite right now. However, we strongly suggest adding the service address for any dumpsters that are currently being rented, otherwise your inventory and availability tracking will be inaccurate and you'll have to manually update each rented dumpster one-by-one after you've imported them.
TIP: If you've already added your Yard location to your Dumpster Management settings, you can add that address to the spreadsheet template so that Docket knows which of your dumpsters aren't being rented and are still available. - Save your spreadsheet and repeat Steps 1-3.
- Click "+ Select File" when the prompt appears again.
- Choose the spreadsheet you saved on your device.
- Click the "Upload" button to start importing your assets.
You'll see your imported dumpsters appear in the Assets section of your Docket account.
If you've added a service address or your Yard address to your dumpsters, they'll appear under a date-specific list.
Dumpsters that aren't being rented will have a house icon next to them, indicating that they're in your Yard and available to rent.
Dumpsters that are being rented will have a map pin icon next to them, indicating they're onsite with a client.
If you haven't added a service address or Yard address to your dumpsters, they'll appear under an Untracked list indicating that Docket doesn't know where they are.
