Project Name pricing lets you set different prices for different service addresses under the same client. Instead of creating a separate client for every location or manually adjusting prices on each task, you assign a Project Name to a service address and let your pricing matrix handle the rest.
This is useful for clients with multiple locations, recurring jobs tied to a specific site, or pricing agreements that differ by property. Once it's set up, Docket automatically applies the right price based on the Project Name tied to a task's service address.
Before You Start
- Depending on your permissions, you may not be able to perform all of the functions listed in this article. Please reach out to your Admin if you require additional access.
- Project Name pricing only works within a client-level pricing matrix. It's not available for account-level pricing matrices.
- The Show Project Name settings must be turned on under Billing Settings: Invoice before Project Name will show up on invoices and tasks.
How Project Name Pricing Works
When you create a task, Docket checks the service address's Project Name against the client's pricing matrix.
If there's a matching Project Name in the matrix, Docket applies that row's price. If there's no Project Name assigned, or the assigned Project Name isn't in the matrix, Docket falls back to the standard pricing row instead.
Manage Project Names for a Client
Project Names are managed at the client level, so each client has their own list.
To add or remove a Project Name for a client, follow these steps:
- Open a Client’s Profile.
- Click "Client Settings" in the top-right corner.
-
Click to expand the Billing section.
- Scroll to the Project Names section.
- Type a Project Name and click the "+" button, or press Enter or Return on your keyboard, to add it.
-
Click “Update” to save.
TIP: You can also create a new Project Name directly from a service address or while scheduling a dumpster task, without going through Client Settings. Any Project Name created this way is automatically added to the client's full list.
To remove a Project Name, click the trash icon next to it. After removing it from the list, click “Update” to save.
Please Note: Removing a Project Name here doesn't erase it from past tasks, invoices, or charges. It's just removed as a future option to select.
Assign a Project Name to a Service Address
There are 3 main ways you can assign a Project Name to a service address: after it has been saved to a client's profile, while creating a new service address from a client's profile, or while creating a new service address during task creation.
-
From the Addresses section of a client's profile, find the service address, click "Actions," and select "Add Project Name."
-
In the “Additional Options” section when adding a new service address from a client's profile.
-
In the “Additional Options” section when creating a new service address while scheduling a task or job.
Whichever option you choose, you'll see the same Project Name field and drop-down, letting you select an existing Project Name or add a new one.
Add Project Name to a Client's Pricing Matrix
Project Names are managed at the client level, so each client has their own list. These are optional names used for a client's jobs and billing, like service addresses and pricing.
To add Project Name to a price, follow these steps:
- Open a Client’s Profile.
- Select "Special Pricing."
- Click to expand the Dumpster Pricing Matrix section.
-
Click "Manage Pricing Matrix."
- Click "Add Price," or click into an existing price to edit it.
- Click into the Variables section.
- Select a Project Name from the drop-down, or add a new one.
- Add or update pricing details as needed.
-
Click “Add Price” or “Update Price” to save.
Please Note: Project Name only appears as an active option when you're working within a client-level pricing matrix. If you try to add Project Name outside of a client-level pricing matrix, the field will be visible but disabled, with a tooltip that reads: "Project names are only available when configuring a client-level pricing matrix."
Export and Import a Pricing Matrix with Project Name
If you export a client's pricing matrix to Excel or CSV, the Project Name column will be included alongside your other pricing variables. When you import a matrix back into Docket, Project Name values in that column will be read and applied to the corresponding prices.
Project Name vs. Pricing Type
Both Project Name and Pricing Type can be used to customize pricing for a service address, but they work differently and serve different purposes.
Pricing Type is set up at the account level and applies across your entire Docket account. Project Name is scoped to a single client, so it won't clutter your account-wide settings as you take on more clients and locations.
As a best practice, use Project Name instead of Pricing Type when your only reason for using Pricing Type is to customize pricing for a specific service address. If you're already using Pricing Type for other reasons, like offering discounted pricing to long-term clients, you can use both Pricing Type and Project Name together. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
These FAQs address common questions and quick clarifications to help you use this feature with confidence.
What happens if a service address has a Project Name that isn't in the pricing matrix?
Docket will fall back to your standard, non-Project-Name pricing. If you want that Project Name to have its own pricing, you'll need to add it as a variable in the client's pricing matrix. Creating a Project Name on its own doesn't automatically create a matching price.
Can I use Project Name and Pricing Type on the same service address?
Yes. If you have a valid reason to keep using Pricing Type, like discounted pricing for long-term clients, you can use both Pricing Type and Project Name together.
Does removing a Project Name affect past tasks or invoices?
No. Removing a Project Name from a client's list only removes it as a future option. Past tasks, invoices, and charges that already used that Project Name are not affected.
Why don't I see Project Name as an option in my pricing matrix?
Project Name is only available for client-level pricing matrices. If you're working outside of a client-level matrix, the field will appear disabled. Your Show Project Name setting under Billing Settings: Invoice may also not be turned on.
