To get the most out of IronRoute AI, you need to provide Docket with accurate information about your business. Completing the following five setup steps is required to make sure that IronRoute AI can create the most cost-effective and efficient routes for your drivers.
Before You Start
Here are a few things to know before you continue:
- In order to use IronRoute AI, you need to be on Docket's Pro Plus plan. If you're interested in upgrading to this plan, please contact your original Sales Rep or our Support team to upgrade your contract in order to add DocketShop to your account.
- There are 5 steps to setting up your account to use IronRoute AI successfully:
1) Adding Vehicle Information
2) Assigning a Vehicle to Your Drivers
3) Adding/Adjusting Dump Locations
4) Adding/Adjusting Yard Locations
5) Reviewing/Updating Your Assets' Availability - After you've completed these setup steps, read this article to learn how to use IronRoute AI.
Step 1: Add Your Vehicle Information
IronRoute AI uses specific details about your vehicles to calculate routes and their estimated costs.
It's super important to make sure that these fields are up to date, otherwise your routes won't be as optimized as they should be.
Add a New Vehicle
To add a new vehicle to your Docket account, watch the video above or follow the below instructions:
- Click the "+ New" button in the top left.
- Click on "Vehicle" from the menu that appears.
- Fill out the Vehicle Details and Specifications sections of the Edit Vehicle form.
Please Note: In order to successfully use IronRoute AI, it's very important that you fill out these 3 fields in the Specifications section: Carry Capacity (Drop Offs), Carry Capacity (Pick Ups), and Cost Per Mile. If you leave the Carry Capacity fields blank, IronRoute AI won't work properly. If you leave the Cost Per Mile field blank, Docket will assume a standard $1.50/mile cost.
Edit an Existing Vehicle
To edit an existing vehicle's information, watch the video above or follow the below instructions:
- Click on "Vehicles" in the left navigation menu.
- Click on the vehicle that you want to edit.
- Expand the section you want to edit a field in and click the pencil icon in the top right.
- Adjust the information and click the checkmark in the top right to save your changes.
Required Vehicle Fields for IronRoute AI
- Carry Capacity (Drop Offs and Pick Ups): These are the most important fields related to vehicles for IronRoute AI. These settings tell the tool which dumpster sizes can be handled by each vehicle.
- Cost Per Mile: This number is your cost to operate and it's factored into the estimated cost of each particular route. If this is left blank, Docket will use $1.50/mile in its calculation.
Recommended Vehicle Fields for IronRoute AI
- Wheels, Gross Weight, Height, Width: We recommend filling in these additional fields with the vehicle's information in anticipation of future enhancements to IronRoute AI.
Step 2: Assign Vehicles to Your Drivers
This allows IronRoute AI to use the right driver-and-vehicle combination for each route based on the vehicle's capabilities.
To assign a vehicle to a driver, watch the video above or follow the below instructions:
- Click on "Dispatch" from the left navigation menu.
- At the top of a driver's column, click the three vertical dots across from their name.
- Click on "Assign Vehicle" from the menu that appears.
- Select the Vehicle for this driver from the Assign Employee Vehicle prompt that appears.
- Click "Accept" to confirm the vehicle assignment for this driver.
Step 3: Add Your Dump Location Information
For IronRoute AI to choose the most cost-effective dump sites, it needs to know which materials each site accepts and how much they charge for each material type.
It's super important to make sure that these fields are up to date, otherwise your routes won't be as optimized as they should be.
Add a New Dump Location
To add a new Dump, follow the below instructions:
- Click on “Account” in the bottom left corner.
- Click on “Settings” at the top.
- Click on “View” on the Dumpster Management card.
- Click to expand the Locations section.
- Click "Add Dump".
- Fill in the Details form that appears.
- Click into the Materials & Costs section at the top of the form.
- Click "Edit Materials" at the bottom of the form.
- Select the Waste Materials that this Dump accepts and/or add new Waste Materials.
- Click "Apply" to save the selected/created Waste Materials to this Dump.
- Enter the cost for each selected Waste Material.
- Click "Save Changes" at the bottom of the form.
Edit an Existing Dump Location
To edit an existing Dump's information, watch the video above or follow the below instructions:
- Click on "Dispatch" from the left navigation menu.
- Click on "Dumps" from the Tasks and Dump/Yard Locations column.
- Click on the Dump that you need to edit.
- Adjust the information as needed.
TIP: Docket will auto-save your changes to the Details tab, but you'll need to click "Save Changes" if you edit the Materials & Costs tab.
Required Dump Fields for IronRoute AI
- In the Details tab: Onsite Duration and Address. IronRoute AI uses these fields to optimize each drivers' route as efficiently as possible.
- In the Materials & Costs tab: Waste Material and Cost (Per Ton and/or Per Cubic Yard). IronRoute AI uses these fields to calculate each routes' estimated cost so you can choose the most cost-effective option.
Recommended Dump Fields for IronRoute AI
In the Details tab: Hours. We recommend filling in this field with the dump's information in anticipation of future enhancements to IronRoute AI.
Step 4: Add Your Yard Location Information and Select a Default Yard
IronRoute AI uses your default Yard as the starting point for route calculations, so it's very important that you have one set up in your account settings.
Add a New Yard Location
To add a new yard to your Docket account, watch the video above or follow the below instructions:
- Click on “Account” in the bottom left corner.
- Click on “Settings” at the top.
- Click on “View” on the Dumpster Management card.
- Click to expand the Locations section.
- Click "Add Yard".
- Fill in the Details form that appears.
Select an Existing Yard as Your Default
To make sure IronRoute AI optimizes your drivers' routes as efficiently as possible, you need to select a default yard for the system to use.
All you have to do is click the checkmark next to the Yard location you'd like Docket to recognize as your default.
Clicking the checkmark will automatically save this Yard as your default for IronRoute AI to use when optimizing drivers' routes.
Assign a Yard to a Driver
If your business uses multiple Yards and each of your drivers are expected to start from a specific Yard each morning, you can assign a default Yard to each of them in their employee profile.
Assigning a default Yard to a driver means that IronRoute AI will automatically include that specific starting point for each driver when optimizing their route for the day.

- Click on "Employees" in the left navigation menu.
- Click on the driver's name from the list that appears.
- Select one of your Yards in the Default Yard field.
- Click "Update Admin" to save your changes.
Required Yard Fields for IronRoute AI
- Onsite Duration: IronRoute AI uses this to optimize your drivers' routes and calculate total duration.
- Address: IronRoute AI uses this to optimize your drivers' routes.
- Default Yard: It's vital to set one of your Yards as your default so IronRoute AI can effectively optimize your drivers' routes.
Recommended Yard Fields for IronRoute AI
- Default Yard in drivers' profiles: If your drivers need to start at a specific yard, it's important to assign that to them in their profile.
Step 5: Update Your Asset Availability
Accurate inventory is necessary for IronRoute AI to know which dumpsters are available for new tasks.
It's super important to make sure that your Asset Availability is accurate at all times, otherwise your business won't be able to run as smoothly as you need.
Add an Asset
To add a new dumpster asset, watch the video above or follow the below instructions:
- Click on the "+ New" button in the top left.
- Click on "Assets" from the menu that appears.
- Click "Dumpster" in the Add Asset form that appears.
- Select your dumpster size from the Size drop-down field. Docket will automatically populate the Category and PIN fields based on your Size selection, but you can change both of these fields as needed.
- Click "Add Asset" to save it.
Confirm and Update Asset Availability
To review and update your assets' availability, watch the video above or follow the below instructions:
- Click the Asset Availability icon in the top right corner.
- Click on "Update Availability" from the Asset Availability table that appears.
- Review and update any dumpster size counts that are incorrect in the Update Availability form that appears.
- Click "Update" to save your changes.
Required Asset Information for IronRoute AI
- Your dumpster assets must be added to your Docket account in order for IronRoute AI to work properly (and in order for you to schedule tasks!).
- Your individual assets' availability must be kept up to date in order for IronRoute AI to work properly.
