Commercial & Residential Management Overview and Directory

The Commercial & Residential Management settings area is where you tell Docket how long your drivers spend on-site for each type of activity on your Commercial and Residential stops.

Docket uses these times to pre-fill your stops, estimate how long each route will take, and run route optimization, so the closer these times are to real life operations the closer your planned routes will be to what actually happens in the field.

Before You Start

Here are a few things to know before you continue:

  • We recommend that only the Account Owner(s) or main Office Admin(s) set up or change the settings covered in this article.
  • Your changes to the settings on this page are NOT saved until you click "Save Settings" at the top.
  • Clicking "Reset" across from a setting will revert your changes for that setting back to Docket's defaults.

Navigate to Commercial & Residential Management

To access the Commercial & Residential Management section of settings in your Docket account, just follow the instructions below:

  1. Click on "Account" in the bottom left corner.
  2. Click on "Settings" at the top.
  3. Click "View" on the Commercial & Residential Management card.

You'll see 1 expandable section of settings on this page.

Activity Durations Directory

This section of your settings contains the default amount of time you (and therefore Docket) expect your drivers to spend on-site for each included service (activity). Each duration is entered in minutes (m) and seconds (s).

When you add a service (activity) to a stop, Docket fills in the duration for you based on the type of service (activity) and whether the container on the stop is Commercial or Residential.

TIP: You can still change the duration on an individual stop when you set it up or edit it, and that change only applies to that stop.

Commercial Durations

This setting defaults to 5 MINUTES and 0 SECONDS for ALL ACTIVITY TYPES.

This setting controls how long you and Docket expect your driver to spend at a stop when the container on that stop is set up as Commercial.

TIP: Commercial stops usually take longer than residential ones. For example, servicing a large dumpster at a restaurant takes more time than emptying a cart at a house.

Residential Durations

This setting defaults to 0 MINUTES and 30 SECONDS for ALL ACTIVITY TYPES.

This setting controls how long you and Docket expect your driver to spend at a stop when the container on that stop is set up as Residential.

TIP: Residential stops are usually quick so even a few extra seconds per stop adds up over a long route.

Special Durations

This setting defaults to 2 MINUTES and 0 SECONDS for ALL ACTIVITY TYPES.

This setting controls how long you and Docket expect your driver to spend at a stop when it's not associated with a Commercial or Residential asset.

Collect is used for items that don't have a container, like when picking up bags of yard waste or mattresses.

Activity Without an Asset controls how long Docket expects your driver to spend on a stop that doesn't need to have an asset assigned to it, like when you service a client-owned bin.

Please Note: Once an asset is assigned to a stop, Docket uses the Commercial or Residential duration for that stop's activity instead.
