DocketShop Product Fees Overview

Product fees let you add extra charges to a client's order in DocketShop on top of the price of the product itself.

Some fees may carry over from your main account settings, but setting up fees directly in DocketShop gives you more control and lets you cover charges that don't carry over automatically.

DocketShop offers three types of fees:

1. A Flat Fee that charges the same dollar amount every time. 
2. A Range Fee that charges a flat amount based on which distance band an order falls into. 
3. A Scaling Fee that charges a rate for every unit of value above a minimum, like an extra charge for each mile past a set distance.

Before You Start

Here are a few things to know before you continue:

• Fees are specific to a single product set. If you have more than one product set, you'll need to set up each fee separately for each product set.
• Percentage-based fuel surcharges automatically apply to DocketShop orders from your main account settings. 
• Fuel surcharges set up as flat or mileage-based amounts in your main account settings don't carry over, so you'll need to add those as a fee to DocketShop if you want them to apply to those orders.
• If you're on the Grow plan, distance for Range Fees and Scaling Fee is measured "as the crow flies", meaning a straight line from point A to point B.
• If you're on the Pro plan, distance for Range Fees and Scaling Fee is measured using actual drivable miles, which can be longer.

Set Up a Flat Fee

A Flat Fee charges the same dollar amount every time it's applied to a DocketShop order. 

Set this up for charges that don't change from order to order, like a standard delivery fee or an administrative charge.

To set up a Flat Fee for a product set in DocketShop, just follow the instructions below:

1. Click on "Online Booking" in the left menu.
2. Click into "Products".
3. If you have multiple Product Sets, select the one you want to set up a fee for.
4. Click on the + icon at the top of the Fees section.
5. Click on the "New Fee" that appears in the list.
6. Toggle "Active" off for now so clients don't see it in DocketShop yet.
   
   
7. Toggle "Taxable" off or leave it on as needed.
8. Leave the fee type as Flat Fee.
9. Enter a short label for the fee, like "Fuel Surcharge".
   
   TIP: This label is visible to your clients, so keep it short and sweet.
10. Enter the dollar amount you want to charge in the Fee Amount field.
11. Click "Create Fee" to save the charge for this Product Set.
12. Toggle "Active" on now so clients see it in DocketShop. Or toggle it on whenever you're ready to start applying the charge.
    
    

Set Up a Range Fee

A Range Fee charges a flat amount based on which range an order falls into, like a set price for deliveries between 10 and 20 miles. 

Set this up when you want a few fixed pricing ranges, like a nominal surcharge for local deliveries and a higher surcharge for long-distance ones.

To set up a Range Fee for a product set in DocketShop, watch the video above or follow the instructions below:

1. Click on "Online Booking" in the left menu.
2. Click into "Products".
3. If you have multiple Product Sets, select the one you want to set up a fee for.
4. Click on the + icon at the top of the Fees section.
5. Click on the "New Fee" that appears in the list.
6. Toggle "Active" off for now so clients don't see it in DocketShop yet.
   
   
7. Toggle "Taxable" off or leave it on as needed.
8. Change the fee type to Range Fee.
9. Enter a short label for the fee, like "Fuel Surcharge".
   
   TIP: This label is visible to your clients, so keep it short and sweet.
10. In the Core Value section, you'll see it defaulted to 'Workflow Values' and 'Service Distance'. Keep this pair if you want to set up distance-based pricing ranges.
    
    
    If you change 'Service Distance' to 'Service Length', you'll be able to set up pricing ranges based on a rental's length instead of the distance between your yard and the client's service address.
    
    
    If you change 'Workflow Values' to 'Custom Values', you'll be able to enter a Custom Identifier to personalize your ranges.
    
    
11. Enter the minimum distance, length, or other measurement that your first range includes.
12. Enter the maximum distance, length, or other measurement that your first range includes.
13. Enter the amount your first range costs your clients if their order falls between the minimum and maximum.
14. Click the + button to save your first range.
    
    
    
    Please Note: A new range can't start on a value that's already covered by another range. 
    
    For example, if your first range ends at 10 miles you'll need to start the next range at 11, not 10. See screenshot below.
15. Repeat Steps 11-14 as many times as needed to set up all your tiers.
    
    
16. Click "Create Fee" to save the Range Fee for this Product Set.
17. Toggle "Active" on now so clients see it in DocketShop. Or toggle it on whenever you're ready to start applying the charge.
    
    

Using the screenshot above, our clients will now be charged $15 if their service address is within 10 miles from our yard location. That increases to $20 if their service address is 11-20 miles away.

Set Up a Scaling Fee

A Scaling Fee charges a rate for every unit of value above a minimum, like an extra charge for each mile past a set distance. 

Set this up when the charge should grow with the order, like a mileage surcharge that increases the farther a delivery travels.

To set up a Scaling Fee for a product set in DocketShop, just follow the instructions below:

1. Click on "Online Booking" in the left menu.
2. Click into "Products".
3. If you have multiple Product Sets, select the one you want to set up a fee for.
4. Click on the + icon at the top of the Fees section.
5. Click on the "New Fee" that appears in the list.
6. Toggle "Active" off for now so clients don't see it in DocketShop yet.
   
   
7. Toggle "Taxable" off or leave it on as needed.
8. Change the fee type to Scaling Fee.
9. Enter a short label for the fee, like "Fuel Surcharge".
   
   TIP: This label is visible to your clients, so keep it short and sweet.
10. In the Core Value section, you'll see it defaulted to 'Workflow Values' and 'Service Distance'. Keep this pair if you want to set up a distance-based scaling fee.
    
    
    If you change 'Service Distance' to 'Service Length', you'll be able to set up the scaling fee based on a rental's length instead of the distance between your yard and the client's service address.
    
    
    If you change 'Workflow Values' to 'Custom Values', you'll be able to enter a Custom Identifier to personalize your scaling fee.
    
    
11. Enter the distance, length, or other measurement that you want the Scaling Fee to begin applying to DocketShop orders.
12. If you want to cap your Scaling Fee at a certain point, enter the maximum distance, length, or other measurement you want it to stop applying to DocketShop orders.
13. The Unit Size defaults to 1 and we recommend keeping it as-is so the math calculates cleanly.
14. Enter the amount you want to charge your clients on a sliding scale.
    
    
    
    TIP: If you want to make sure the math checks out, use the Fee Estimator section to test your Scaling Fee.
    
    
15. Click "Create Fee" to save the charge for this Product Set.
16. Toggle "Active" on now so clients see it in DocketShop. Or toggle it on whenever you're ready to start applying the charge.
