How to Use the New Global Search
Our new Global Search feature provides a single, powerful search bar in the main header of your Docket application. You can now find core records—like clients or invoices—from anywhere in the app, saving you time and clicks.
How It Works
Locate the Search Bar: You will find the new search bar permanently located in the top navigation header.
On mobile devices, the search is represented by a magnifying glass in the top navigation.
- Start Typing: As you type your query (e.g., a client's name, phone number, or an invoice PO number), a results dropdown will appear instantly.
- Review Results: The dropdown shows the top matches, conveniently grouped by record type (e.g., "Clients," "Invoices"). Each record type has a unique icon to help you quickly identify it. Each record type will display up to three matches.
- Recent Searches: Clicking on the empty search bar will show your last 3 recent search queries for quick access.
- View Full Results: If there are more results than can be shown in the dropdown, click the "View Full Results/View All" link at the bottom of a category. This will take you to that record's main list page with your search query already applied.
What Can I Search For?
Global Search indexes a wide variety of fields across your most important records.
You can search for:
- Clients & Leads: Business or display name, first/last name, email, phone number, full or partial addresses (street, city, state, zip), and notes.
- Invoices: Invoice number, customer name, PO number, project name, and even text from line item descriptions.
- Contractors: Business name, contact name, email, and phone number.
- And More: The search also covers Recurring Invoices, Employees, and Vehicles.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: How are the search results prioritized in the dropdown?
A: The results are ranked by a weighting system. The system assigns a relevance score to different fields for each record. For example, a direct match on a client's name might be weighted higher than a partial match in a notes field. This ensures the most relevant results appear first. The order is not based on the page you are currently viewing. We will continue to fine-tune this scoring over time to improve relevance.
Q: Will the search bars on the individual pages (like Clients or Invoices) still be there?
A: Yes. All existing search functionality on specific pages will remain unchanged. You can continue to use them for more focused searches when you are already on that page.
Q: Does Global Search work for service addresses, phone numbers, etc.?
A: Yes. The search covers most contact and address fields, including primary and service addresses, as well as primary and additional phone numbers/emails for records like Clients, Leads, and Invoices.
Q: Can I search for Tasks with Global Search?
A: Not at this time. If that is something you would find useful, please share that feedback with our Support team.
Q: Can I use Global Search on my mobile device?
A: Yes! When viewing the web app on your mobile device, tap on the magnifying glass on the top navigation to open Global Search.
Q: If I have feedback or questions on Global Search, where should I go?
A: Please connect with our Support Team to share questions and feedback!
