Dumpster PINs are required in Docket to track assets and inventory. Sometimes, a driver may enter an incorrect PIN when completing a task. If this happens, follow these steps to correct the PIN while maintaining accurate task records.
Step-by-Step Guide to Edit a PIN on a Completed Task
1. Record the Original Completion Details
- Open the task and write down or screenshot the original completion date and time.
- This information is important because you’ll need to re-enter it after editing the PIN to maintain accurate records.
2. Mark the Task as Not Complete
- Open the task.
- Click Actions > Mark as Not Complete.
- The task will return to an incomplete status.
3. Re-Mark the Task as Complete with the Correct PIN
- Click Actions > Mark as Complete.
- Enter the correct PIN in the appropriate field.
- Click Use Scheduled Time or manually re-enter the original completion date and time exactly as it was before.
- Important: If you skip this step, the task will be completed with the current date and time instead.
4. Verify the Changes in Scheduling
- Confirm that the task now shows the updated PIN.
- Double-check that the original completion date and time were preserved accurately.
Important Considerations
- Task History: Following this process ensures an accurate task history while correcting the PIN.
- Data Integrity: Re-entering the original completion date and time is necessary for accurate reporting.
- User Permissions: Only authorized users should have permission to edit completed tasks to avoid accidental changes.
- Editing with the Pencil Tool: Clicking the pencil tool only changes the visual display of the PIN and does not update the PIN history. Use the steps above to ensure the asset is assigned correctly in open rentals.
Final Check: Update the Asset Location
Once the PIN correction is complete:
- Go to Assets > Assets Tab.
- Search for the originally entered incorrect PIN.
- Check if the asset is showing at the correct current location.
- If the location is incorrect:
- Click on the asset.
- Go to the History tab.
- Remove the task from history where the incorrect PIN was used.
- Update the asset to reflect the correct location.
Following these steps ensures that PINs remain accurate, task history is preserved, and inventory tracking stays correct.
