Verizon Connect offers a commercial vehicle GPS tracking system to help businesses manage their vehicles effectively, meet legal obligations, and organize necessary maintenance.
If you’re using Verizon Connect’s Reveal offering, integrating that account with your Docket account empowers you with real-time information on where your trucks are located at any point throughout the workday.
This will help your dispatch teams stay updated on your drivers’ whereabouts and make changes on the fly.
Before You Start
Here are a few things to know before you continue:
- You must be on Docket's Pro plan in order to use this integration.
- We recommend that only the Account Owner(s) or main Office Admins(s) integrate Verizon Connect with your Docket account.
- You must have a Verizon Connect account already set up in order to integrate it with Docket. Click here to set up an account with them.
Accessing the Verizon Connect Integration
To get to the Verizon Connect integration in your Docket account, follow these steps:
- Click on Account at the very bottom of your left-hand menu.
- Click on Settings at the top of the page.
- Click on Integrations right underneath.
- Scroll down to the Verizon Connect integration card.
Once you’ve located the Verizon Connect integration card, you’ll begin the connection process.
Connecting Verizon Connect to Docket
When you’re ready to set up the integration between Verizon Connect and Docket, there are three steps to complete:
- Generate an API Key in your Verizon Connect account.
- Add the API Key to your Docket account.
- Add your Verizon Vehicle Number to your trucks in Docket.
Generate API Key in Verizon Connect
The first step to linking your Verizon Connect and Docket accounts is to generate an API Key inside your Verizon Connect account. This is how both platforms will “talk” to each other and sync your vehicle information.
To see Verizon’s instructions on how to create an API integration (and generate an API Key), click here. Their article also includes a video at the top with these steps.
To generate an API Key, follow these steps:
- Click the “Open Account” button from the Verizon Connect integration card in Docket and log in.
- Click “Login” from the Verizon Connect Reveal card and log into your account.
- Click on your profile icon in the top right-hand corner.
- Click on “Marketplace” from the drop-down that appears.
- Click into the API Integrations section at the top of the page that appears.
- Click the “Get Started” button to the left.
- Fill out the “Account details” form that appears.
- In the Integration name field we suggest using “Docket Integration”.
- In the Developer name field enter “Docket”.
- In the Developer email field, enter your email address. (You’ll receive an email confirmation from Verizon that you’ll need to open.)
- Check the terms of service box at the bottom of the form.
- Click “Next” once you’re done.
- Review the information you’ve entered and click “Confirm Request” to submit the form.
You’ll receive an email with the newly generated API Key, so copy that and move onto the last part!
Add API Key to Docket
Once the API Key has been generated from your Verizon Connect account it’s time to connect it with your Docket account.
To do that, follow these steps:
- Find the Verizon Connect integration card on Docket’s integration page.
- Click on the “Credentials” button at the bottom of the Verizon Connect integration card.
- Enter your Verizon Connect account’s login information and click “Save”.
- The API Key you generated in Verizon Connect earlier will automatically appear on the integration card in Docket and the two systems will be linked.
Now that both accounts are connected you’ll be able to see Docket as an integration partner in your Verizon Connect account under the APIs section.
Add Verizon Vehicle Number to Your Trucks in Docket
The last part to complete for this integration is to add your Verizon Vehicle Numbers to the trucks you’ve added in your Docket account.
Adding the numbers to your trucks is how your dispatch team sees your trucks in real time on the Dispatch page in Docket.
To do that, follow these steps:
- Open and log into your Docket account.
- Click into Vehicles on the bottom left.
- Click on the first vehicle in your list.
- Scroll to the bottom of the vehicle’s profile until you see the “Verizon Vehicle Number” field.
- Open and log into your Verizon Connect account in a separate browser tab.
- Click on your profile icon in the top right-hand corner.
- Click on “Admin” from the drop-down that appears.
- Click on your Vehicle List link under the Vehicles section that appears.
- Looking in the Vehicle # column, find the number for the vehicle that you’ve pulled up in your Docket account.
- Enter the Verizon Connect number in Docket’s “Verizon Vehicle Number” field and click “Update Details” to save it.
After you’ve saved all your Verizon Connect vehicle numbers in the corresponding vehicle profile in Docket, you’ll see the vehicles appear on your Dispatch map.
Additional Information
Throughout the day, you and your dispatching team can track where each vehicle is and the route that they’re on as they complete tasks in Docket.
To disconnect Verizon Connect’s vehicle tracking for a single truck, simply remove the number from the truck’s profile.
If you need to disconnect the entire integration between Docket and Verizon Connect, click the “Revoke API Key” button at the bottom of the Verizon Connect integration card.
You can also click on the “Revoke Access” button to the right of the Docket API Integration in your Verizon Connect account.
