Add Recurring Stops to a Route

Recurring Stops are how you build out your Commercial and Residential routes in Docket. Each one represents a client location your drivers will service on a regular schedule, whether that's weekly trash pickup, bi-weekly recycling, or any other cadence your business runs.

In most cases, your Recurring Stops will be imported by the implementation team during onboarding. Use this process when you need to add a new client or service location to your routes after your initial setup is complete.

Before You Start

Here are a few things to know before you continue:

  • You'll need Admin or Office Staff-level permissions to create Recurring Stops.
  • We recommend adding your client in Docket before creating a Recurring Stop. It makes the process faster, but you can also add a new client during stop creation. To learn more, please review our Add Clients Individually and Import Clients in Bulk  article.
  • Have at least one Recurring Route created before assigning a stop to it. To learn more, please review our Recurring Routes Overview article and get that set up first.

Create a Recurring Stop

  1. Click "Recurring Stops" in the C&R section of the left-hand menu.
  2. Click the "+ New" button in the top-left corner.
  3. Select "Recurring Route Stop" under C&R Actions in the drop-down menu.

A pop-out panel will appear on the right side of your screen.

  4. Search for an existing customer (client) by name or business, then select them from the results.

  5. Search for or select the client's service address (location) or enter a new address.

TIP: After selecting the address, you'll see a map appear with a pin on the location. Click "Edit Location" to drag and drop the pin to the exact spot where service occurs on the property. This is especially useful for clients with large properties or multiple assets, like a commercial client with several bins across a large site, where the street address alone may not be specific enough to guide your driver.

  6. Click "Continue to Details." If you selected an existing address, this step may advance automatically.

Add Activities to the Stop

Activities are the specific actions your driver will perform at this stop. At least one Activity must be added before you can create the stop.

  1. Click the "+ Add Activities" button under Activities.

  2. Select an "Activity Type" from the drop-down.
    • Empty: The most common activity for recurring service. Use this when your driver will empty a bin or container at the client's location.
    • Pick Up / Drop Off: These activity types are more commonly used for ad hoc stops.
  3. Select a "Container Type" from the drop-down (e.g., Bag, Bin).
  4. Select a "Material Type" from the drop-down. Options include:
    • Bulk
    • Recycling
    • Trash
    • Yard Waste
  5. Click "Confirm" to add the Activity to the stop.

TIP: If a single stop requires more than one Activity at the same time, you can add multiple Activities to the same stop. However, if different trucks handle different materials (for example, one truck for trash and a separate truck for recycling), create a separate Recurring Stop for each so they can be assigned to the appropriate route and driver.

Configure Scheduling Settings

  1. Select a "Start Date." Choose the next upcoming occurrence if this stop is ready to run immediately, or a future date if you're setting it up in advance.
  2. Select a "Desired Service Time" if you or your client have a preference. (Optional)
  3. Click the "Route" drop-down and select the Recurring Route you want to assign this stop to.

TIP: Assigning the stop to a route during creation is the most efficient approach. The stop frequency will automatically populate based on the schedule of the route you select. If you're not ready to assign it yet, you can leave this blank and assign it to a route later. Unassigned stops will appear in the Unassigned Stops list in the Route Tracker, where you can drag them into a route on the day of service. See Assign a Recurring Stop to a Route After Creation below.

  4. Select a Stop Frequency.
  5. Set how often the stop should repeat. (e.g., every 1 week, 2 weeks, etc.)
  6. Select the Day(s) of the Week the stop should be scheduled.

Please Note: If you select a Route, the Stop Frequency and other schedule settings will automatically populate based on the route you selected.

  7. Add any driver, dispatch, office, or client notes under Notes & Attachments. (Optional)
  8. Click "Create Stop."

Please Note: Recurring Stops are not automatically linked to a Recurring Invoice. If a stop is not linked to an invoice, you will not bill for it. After creating your stops, confirm each one is linked to the appropriate Recurring Invoice.

Assign a Recurring Stop to a Route After Creation

If a Recurring Stop was created without being assigned to a route, you can assign it at any time.

  1. Click anywhere on the Recurring Stop row to open the details pop-out panel.
  2. Scroll and click “Schedule Settings" to expand it.
  3. Click the "Edit" icon.

  4. Select the appropriate Recurring Route from the Route drop-down.
  5. Click the checkmark icon to save.

Please Note: The Details tab also gives you a quick view of billing information and any adjustments associated with the stop.
