Add Your Clients Overview

Adding your clients in Docket keeps all their details, billing, and job history in one place, making it easier to manage and schedule work.

There are two ways to add clients in Docket:

  1. Manually adding them on-by-one.
  2. Importing multiple clients at a time.

Before You Start

  • Depending on your permissions, you may not be able to perform all of the functions listed in this article. Please reach out to your Admin if you require additional access.
  • When using the spreadsheet template, you CANNOT change the header row at the top otherwise your import will fail.
  • Make sure to download a fresh spreadsheet template from your Docket account since each template is account-specific.

Add a Client Manually

Use this method when you only have a handful of clients to add as your business grows.

TIP: It takes about a minute per client and only requires their name, billing address, and contact information to get started.

To manually add a client, just follow the instructions below:

  1. Click “Clients” towards the top of the left-hand menu.
  2. Click the “+ New” button.
  3. Click “Add Client” in the drop-down.

  4. Enter Client’s Name in the pop-out on the right.
  5. Click “Continue to Billing.”

  6. Enter Client’s Billing Address.
  7. Click “Continue to Contact.”

If you do not have a billing address for your Client you can click “Skip Address” at the top of the pop-out to continue.

  8. Enter Client’s Email and Phone.

TIP: You can add more than one email address and more than one phone number for a client. After entering the first, an option to add another will appear.

  9. Click “Continue to Add Client.”

Please Note: Depending on how your account is set up, you might be prompted to add additional details about your client before adding, so you will need to finish those last steps before adding your client.

After adding your client, they will appear in your client list.

Import Clients in Bulk

Use this method when you have a large existing client list and want to get everyone into Docket at once.

The import uses a downloadable spreadsheet template so you can fill in all your client details offline and upload them in one shot.

TIP: Once the import is complete, check the Clients tab in the left-hand menu to confirm everyone came through correctly.

To bulk import your clients, just follow the instructions below.

  1. Click the “+ New” button.
  2. Click “Imports” in the menu that appears.
  3. Select “Clients” in the next menu that appears.

  4. Click “Download Template” in the prompt that appears.

  5. In the downloaded Excel template, fill in your Client information with filling in at least one of the yellow fields; Client ID, Company Name, or Email.

Please Note: Changing any of the column headers on the template will cause the import to fail. Also, if you fill out the Client Type and/or Pricing Type columns on the spreadsheet, they must match your existing Docket settings.
  6. Once you have completed filling out the template with your client information, return to Docket and click the “+New” button.
  7. Click “Imports” in the menu that appears.
  8. Select “Clients” in the next menu that appears.

  9. Click the “+ Select File” button.

  10.  Select the file you just finished filling out.

  11.  Click the “Upload” button.

Once the import’s been processed, you’ll see a prompt appear confirming each row that was successfully or unsuccessfully imported. Use this to check that everyone was added to your account properly.
