Route Stops Overview

Stops are the heart of your Commercial & Residential operation in Docket since each stop represents a client location that your drivers service along their route(s).

Docket has 2 types of stops that can be added to a route:

  1. Recurring stops, which repeat on a regular schedule like weekly trash pickup.
  2. Ad hoc stops, which are one-time visits like a bin delivery for a new client.

The Recurring Stops page in Docket is where you'll manage your routes’ regularly recurring service stops.

The Stop History page in Docket shows all of your stop-related activity. This includes ad hoc stops, recurring stops that have already run, and recurring stops occurring today.

Before You Start

Here are a few things to know before you continue:

  • You'll need Admin or Office Staff permissions to create Stops.
  • We recommend adding your clients to Docket before creating Stops to make the process faster, but you're able to add a new client during stop creation.
  • You must create at least one Route before creating Stops so you can assign them to a route.
  • You must create the Service Package and/or Services that you want to use before creating Stops.

Create a Stop

After you've created your routes, it's time to create the stops that a driver must complete when handling a route.

There are 2 types of stops that can be created in Docket:

  1. Recurring stops.
  2. Ad hoc stops.

Create a Recurring Stop

Recurring stops are the most common way to build out routes and each one represents a client location your drivers will service on a regular schedule.

To create a recurring stop, just follow the instructions below:

  1. From anywhere in your account, click the "+ New" button in the top-left corner.
  2. Click on "Stop" from the menu that appears.
  3. Search and select an existing client or click the "Create new customer" option.
  4. Select the client's service address or click the "Add new address" option.
  5. Click "Continue to Services".

  6. By default, the Stop Type will be set to "Recurring Service" at the top.
  7. Select what Line of Business this stop falls under.
  8. Select the Start Date.
  9. Select the Service Package or individual Service(s) this stop should include. You can add more than one Service to a stop, but if different trucks handle different materials (like waste vs. recycling), create a separate stop for each so they can be assigned the appropriate service and route.

TIP: If no existing Service Package or individual Services apply to this particular stop, click "No service" and manually add a new service for this stop. Note that this service won't have pricing, a service agreement, or an invoice associated with it until you set it up.
  10. Click "Continue to Routing".

  11. Select the date the associated asset needs to be dropped off on. This is usually before the stop's start date.
  12. Add the drop-off stop to an existing route or leave it unassigned until you know which route it needs to be added to.
  13. Add notes regarding the drop-off stop for the driver if needed.

  14. If there's a constraint on the service time for the recurring service stop, like when a school can't be serviced before 7am, toggle on the "Required service time" setting and enter the time.
  15. Adjust the default duration for the recurring service stop if needed.
  16. Assign the recurring service stop to an existing route (or leave it unassigned until you know which route it needs to be added to) and confirm the days of the week it needs to be completed on.

If you decide to add the stop to an existing route, you can use the calendar preview to see the stop's frequency. You can also use the preview stop option to see the most optimal spot for Docket to add the stop to the route. You'll also have the ability to reorder the stop using this option.

If you leave the stop unassigned, the days of the week and calendar preview won't autofill.

  17. Add notes regarding the recurring service stop for the driver if needed.
  18. Click "Continue to Billing".

  19. If you selected a Service Package or individual Services for this stop, the billing details will automatically fill in from the Pricing page in Docket, but you can review and adjust any part of the billing as needed.
  20. After you've reviewed/adjusted the stop's billing details, decide whether the client will be charged automatically upon stop creation. This depends on whether they have a saved payment method in their profile.
  21. Decide when the client will receive their first invoice for this stop.
  22. Click "Finalize Agreement" to save the stop.

Create an Ad Hoc Stop

Ad Hoc stops are one-time stops for situations that fall outside a client’s normal service schedule, like a one-time bin delivery for a new client.

Please Note: An ad hoc stop can’t be converted into a recurring stop.

To create an ad hoc stop, just follow the instructions below:

  6. At the top, click on "One-time instance".
  7. Select the Service Date for the ad hoc stop.
  8. If there's a constraint on the service time for the ad hoc stop, like when a gated community can't be accessed before 3pm, toggle on the "Required service time" setting and enter the time.
  9. Select what kind of Activity needs to be completed during this ad hoc stop..
  10. Select which asset needs to be serviced during this ad hoc stop. It can be one of your own assets that's already on site with this client, a client-owned asset, or an asset you haven't delivered yet.
  11. Adjust the default duration for the ad hoc stop if needed.
  12. Click "Add activity" to add it to the stop.

TIP: You can add more than one Activity to a stop, but if different trucks handle different materials (like waste vs. recycling), create a separate ad hoc stop for each so they can be assigned the appropriate service and route.
  13. Click "Continue to Routing".

  14. Add the stop to an existing route or leave it unassigned until you know which route it needs to be added to.
  15. Add notes regarding the stop for the driver if needed.
  16. Click "Create Stop" to save the stop.

Assign a Stop to a Route After Creation

If a recurring or ad-hoc stop was created without being assigned to a route, you can assign those stops to a route at any time from the Route Tracker page.

To assign stops to a route, just follow the instructions below:

  1. From the Route Tracker page, use the date selector to find the start date for the stop you need to assign.
  2. Make sure the bottom list is set to display Unassigned Stops.

  3. Select the route you want to add it to in the top list.

  4. Drag and drop the stop to the top list's route and reorder it if needed.

  5. Click "Submit" in the bottom right corner to save your assignment.

TIP: From the Recurring Stops page you can quickly identify any recurring stops that need to be assigned to a route by looking at the Recurring Route column. Clicking on one will open up the side panel where you can assign it to a route by editing the Schedule Settings section.

View, Edit, and Delete a Stop

Newly created and unassigned stops all land in the Unassigned Stops list on the Route Tracker page in your Docket account.

TIP: Ad Hoc stops are colored orange and have an AD-HOC label on their details page.

Newly created Ad Hoc stops that are assigned to a route will land at the top of the assigned route's stop list so Dispatchers can quickly find and reorder them as needed.

Newly created Recurring stops that are assigned to a route will land at the most optimal position Docket can find or wherever you manually added them during stop creation.

Recurring stops will also appear on the Recurring Stops page in your Docket account.

Please Note: Ad Hoc stops will only appear on the Route Tracker page.

Clicking on a stop from either the Route Tracker or Recurring Stops page will open the side panel where you can quickly edit each section.

Please Note: If you need to change a Recurring stop's address, you'll be asked whether the address needs to be changed for just that single stop or for every stop that uses the same address.

Clicking on the Actions button at the top of the side panel or on the right of the Recurring Stops page will open the stop's full details page.

If you want to delete a stop, just open its full details page and click on the "Actions" button in the top left.

TIP: You can easily drag and drop the different sections around the page and reorder them into a customized view for yourself.
