Docket's Mobile App Settings

The Docket Mobile App puts the tools your drivers need right in the palm of their hands.

They can view and complete assigned jobs, update clients' info, and manage inventory directly from their phone or tablet based on the settings and permissions you allow in your Docket account and in the driver's Employee profile.

There are a few different settings in Docket that empower you with control over what your drivers can see, do, and change in the app.

By configuring these settings, you'll guide their workflows, improve data collection, and tailor the app experience based on your drivers' roles and responsibilities.

Before You Start

Here are a few things to know before you continue:

  • We recommend that only the Account Owner(s) or main Office Admin(s) set up or change the settings covered in this article.
  • Dumpster Management settings auto-save whenever you change them.
  • Task Settings don't auto-save; you'll need to click "Save Settings" at the top after you make changes.
  • Employee profile settings don't auto-save; you'll need to click "Update Access" at the bottom after you make changes.

Mobile App Settings Overview

There are 3 main sections of your Docket account that hold settings related to the mobile app:

  • Dumpster Management
  • Task Settings
  • Employee Profile

Dumpster Management holds the majority of your mobile app settings. These are account-wide, meaning any changes you make here affect every driver. This is where you'll manage things like required fields for drivers to fill out, dumpster location tracking, and what client details show up for drivers.

Task Settings holds just a few mobile app settings, but they're important for managing how drivers complete their assigned tasks.

Employee Profile is where you'll find driver-specific settings. Use this section to control what an individual driver can do in the mobile app and to override an account-wide setting for just a single driver.

Dumpster Management Settings for the Mobile App

These are account-wide settings, meaning any changes you make here affect every driver using the mobile app.

This section is the exact same as our stand-alone article on Dumpster Management: Mobile App

TIP: There isn't a Save button on this page because your changes auto-save.

To access this list of mobile app settings, just follow the instructions below:

  1. Click on “Account” in the bottom left corner.
  2. Click on “Settings” at the top.
  3. Click on “View” on the Dumpster Management card.

  4. Click to expand the "Mobile App" section.

Allow Create PIN

This setting is OFF by default.

When enabled, this setting makes a new button appear in the mobile app for your drivers.

Using this button, they can add a new dumpster asset with a PIN of their choosing to your Docket account and the job they're currently handling.

Dumpster Location Tracking

This setting defaults to SERVICE ADDRESS.

By default, Docket will track your dumpster assets' locations using the service address on its related tasks.

If you change this setting to GPS, Docket will use the assigned drivers' GPS coordinates as the dumpster's location.

Please Note: Your driver must have GPS turned on in the mobile app in order for this setting to track your dumpsters via GPS. It's also extremely important for your driver to be standing next to the dumpster when they mark a task complete, otherwise Docket will log the wrong coordinates.

TIP: Use Docket's Asset Locations by Category and Dumpster Locations reports to easily see where all your assets are!

Notify Driver on Unpaid Rental

This setting is OFF by default.

Turning this on means that your drivers will see a notification in the app if a client has unpaid invoices linked to the dumpster rental they're working on.

This is helpful if you allow your drivers to take client payments in the field because they'll know that if a client needs to pay for more than one invoice.

Notify Driver for Unsigned Documents

This setting is OFF by default.

Turning this on means that your drivers will see a notification in the app if a client still needs to sign any documents associated with their rental, like your T&Cs.

Required Items (for Drivers to Complete on Pick Up Tasks)

The default for each setting is shown in the below screenshot.

Blue = ON, grey = OFF.

Turning on the requirement for any of these items means that drivers will have to add the selected item to their Pick Up task before marking it complete in the mobile app.

If you leave all of these items off, drivers will still have the option to add these to their Pick Up tasks. However, they won't be required to enter the information before marking the task complete and moving on.

Show Client Types

This setting is ON by default.

This setting controls whether the client's type(s) assigned to their profile appear in Docket's mobile app for your drivers.

Please Note: In order to assign/display Client Types, you must first set them up in your account's settings.

Show Code Scanner

This setting is OFF by default.

Turning this on enables your drivers to use Docket's mobile app to scan QR codes and/or barcodes to complete their tasks using their device's camera.

Please Note: In order to organize your dumpster assets using QR codes/barcodes, you must first set those up in your account.

Show Client Name

This setting is ON by default.

This setting controls whether your clients' names appear in the mobile app for your drivers.

Show Dump Location

This setting is ON by default.

This setting controls whether the dump location your driver will be routed to shows on the Schedule screen in the mobile app.

Show Invoices

This setting is OFF by default.

Turning this on means that your drivers will be able to see your clients' invoices in the mobile app.

This is helpful if you allow your drivers to take client payments in the field because they'll be able to show clients their invoices and collect payment on any unpaid invoices as needed.

Strict Task Order

This setting is ON by default at the top.

The setting is OFF by default on the bottom.

This setting controls whether your drivers are forced to complete each of their assigned tasks in the order they appear on the Schedule screen in the mobile app.

The order begins with the task that appears at the top of the Schedule screen and they have to complete it before moving onto the next task.

If you want to enforce even more rigor, you can choose to blur the rest of your drivers' tasks so they only know the total count and none of the details before starting a task.

Task Settings for the Mobile App

These are account-wide settings that control how drivers complete tasks in the mobile app.

Please Note: There is a "Save Settings" button in the top right corner of this page. Remember to click it before leaving the page so your changes are saved!

  1. Click on “Account” in the bottom left corner.
  2. Click on “Settings” at the top.
  3. Click on “Company” right below.
  4. Click on “View” on the Task Settings card.

Mobile App Section

PIN Entry Method

This is set to SELECT by default.

This setting controls how your drivers will be asked to enter dumpster PINs if you use those to keep track of your dumpster assets.

Input:
This options means that drivers will have to manually type in a dumpster's PIN in order to confirm that the task they're working on has been completed.

Select:
This option means that drivers will need to select the correct dumpster PIN from a list of all your PINs in order to confirm that the task they're working on has been completed.

TIP: We suggest leaving this setting on Select to minimize operator error.

Show Client Types

This setting is ON by default.

This setting controls whether the Client Type label(s) added to each client's profile appear on each of their tasks displayed in Docket's mobile app.

This is helpful information to provide your drivers with in case they need to complete some types of clients' tasks differently.

Settings Section

Allow Unavailable PIN

This setting is OFF by default.

Turning this setting on means that your drivers will be able to mark tasks as complete in their mobile app without selecting the correct dumpster asset PIN. They'll be able to enter any PIN combo, even if it's incorrect or doesn't exist.

Because assets PINs are vital to accurately track your dumpsters in Docket, we strongly suggest leaving this setting off so your drivers have to enter the correct PIN in order to mark a task complete.

Employee Profile Settings for the Mobile App

These settings apply to one driver at a time, rather than your whole account. Use them to adjust an individual driver's access, or to override an account-wide setting for just that person.

Please Note: There is an "Update Access" button at the bottom of the profile. Remember to click it before leaving the page so your changes are saved!

To access this list of mobile app settings, just follow the instructions below:

  1. Click on “Employees” to the left.
  2. Click on the driver you want to adjust settings for.
  3. Click on “Access” at the top of their profile.
  4. Click to expand the “Mobile” section.

Advanced Mobile Features

This setting is ON by default.

This setting controls whether the driver will see a + button in the bottom right of the mobile app and can create new items like clients, jobs, invoices, etc...straight from the app.

Please Note: If you turn this setting off, the driver won't see the Clients section at the bottom of the app and won't be able to view client details like contact info.

Strict Task Order

This setting is ON by default at the top.

The setting is OFF by default on the bottom.

This setting matches the account-wide Strict Task Order setting under Dumpster Management (covered above), but is driver-specific. That means you can turn this on or off for a particular driver while leaving the rest of your drivers affected by the global setting.

View Driver Schedules

This setting is OFF by default.

This setting controls whether the driver can view any other driver's scheduled tasks in the mobile app.

This is helpful if you want a lead driver or supervisor to have visibility into the whole team's schedule, not just their own tasks.

Modify Driver Tasks

This setting is OFF by default.

This setting controls whether a driver can modify certain task properties on tasks assigned to other drivers, not just their own.

This is helpful if you want a lead driver or supervisor to adjust details on another driver's task without needing full office access.

Please Note: Since a driver needs to be able to see a task before they can change it, this setting requires the View Driver Schedules setting to be turned on first.

Basic Task Creation

This setting is OFF by default.

This setting controls whether a driver can create new Drop Off and Pick Up tasks directly from the mobile app.

This is helpful if you want drivers to add tasks in the field, like scheduling a follow-up drop off, without going through the office first.
